I seriously need to vent

I am a senior studying biology with a biochem minor and am finishing up my final course this summer. I have taken all the tough courses you could take. The orgo's the moleculars the biochems and the calc II's. I found myself busting my you know what, studying till the AM, giving up weekends, holidays, and sleep for 5 years. Meanwhile my business major friends coasted for four, enjoying the college life, drinking on weekends and enjoying plenty of sleep. I am currently looking for jobs and all I see are research assistant jobs starting at 30K and topping off at 50K!?!?!?? My friends with business degrees have entry level jobs at 40-50 and top off at 90-100K!! Unbelievable. And people wonder why no one is going into the STEM majors. If I could go back in time id tell myself to stay clear myself. SOMEONE PLEASE REASSURE ME.

The business gets always more money. That's the way. But you should do, what you like, no matter how much will you get

Thanks for the reply - i appreciate it. The figures for the 75th percentile look good but other statistics also kind of reinforce my thinking. 54% go on to obtain a higher degree. Its almost as if its mandatory for bio majors to obtain a masters or phd just to have a standard of living which is on par with other degrees which only require 4 (easier) years.

My experience as a cynical PhD in Biology is that do not chose science for the money. definitely not. And remember that PhD goes on in academia, which is not a family friendly work environment (long hours, high pressure if you want to get tenure...) and the pay is not that great.

So yeah, you have the intellectual high ground, they have the money. Unfair. Life sucks. deal with it, or go for Business...
