The normal process of transcription requires:
a) an AUG start codon b) an ATG start codon
c) ribonucleoside triphosphates d) template RNA

I think D because Transcription makes a template RNA

I'd be inclined to agree with you :) a. and c. are needed for translation and ATG doesn't code for a start codong.

Transcription uses DNA as a template to create an antiparallel strand of RNA. Ah-ha. I misread the points. Okay dokey I would like to retract my answer and replace it with a complete reverse!

ATG codes for methionine (START codon) when part of DNA. So transcribing DNA into RNA would require it to be present. I'm going with b.

There are 3 major processes (let's do them on a short sequence):


Replication:

DNA-> DNA

aaaatgccctcctaacta (DNA template)-> ttttacgggaggattgat (DNA product)


Transcription:

DNA ->mRNA

ttttacgggaggattgat (DNA template) -> aaaaugcccuccuaacua (mRNA product)


Translation:

mRNA -> protein

aaaaugcccuccuaacua (mRNA template) -> Met-Pro-Ser (peptide product)

See if you can figure out the right answer by looking at the examples.
