any digest of some proteins, even some buyoun (sorry, I don't know the spelling, but it's used for soups), it was used in the past regularly

peptone serves as nitrogen source for micro organisms any thing which has nitrogen source u can use which is suitable for growth of microorganisms and that can take nitrogen easily...
