How to change the genetic information of a virus? How to change the genetic information of a virus?
A good formation in virology in your friendly neighbourhood university?
The variety of viruses is huge they infect eukaryotes, prokaryotes and even other viruses. To study any virus you nedd to be able to grow the host (or some cells of that host, and not all of them can be infected by any virus of said host) then to have method to extarct and purify the virus (high speed centrifuge and chemicals of various density). It is not generally something that you can read a book about and start doing in your garage 5 minutes later. And then comes the elves of safety (which have gone slightly mad a long time ago Patrick

[sarcasm]Great choice[/sarcasm]. It is actually quite a complicated family of virus (There are 3 main types: A, B and C, and there are many subtypes among those).
I really suggest that if you are truly interested you take good classes in the subject. You could start by reading a textbook on the subject, I cannot recommend one, as it is not my specialty, but you can even look for free articles in pubmed and books in the book section of the same database: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/ Patrick
