semen lifespan outside bodyHi,
My questions are : > How long semen remains active out side body ? > During the period it is outside body and still active , can it get infected/contaminated by virus like HIV (if it contacts it) ? > Is it easily washable with plain water(with or without soap) as it is sticky ? Bioshare
1/ Probably not very long, but will depends on a lot of environmental factor (humidity, temperature, UV exposure....). However it can survive a few days in the body, where there is no risk of drying out, the temeprature is nice and ususally no UV
2/You are aware that HIV do not actually contaminate the sperm themselves, are you? it is just mixed in the fluid in order to be transfered to another host with yummy T-cells to contaminate. Nevertheless if you mix sperm with HIV or other viruses, it might help their survival. keep in mind that many viruses have a very short life outside the host too. As they are quite sensitive to the environmental conditions. 3/They will not survive regular laundry, and hopefully your laundry detergent should be able to deal with this kind of stains. Now do a quick wipe of your sheets will remove it entirely? It will probably remove most of it, and the use of soap will certainly help to remove any kind of stain. Will that guarantee that no trace will be left, I really cannot say. And as an aside I can't help being curious as to why you might want to know, but I am really afraid to know the answer... Patrick
