Natural selection in humanHi,
I am currently a 3rd year student studying biomedical sciences. In my human evolution and genomics module i have been given the assignment of Natural selection in humans - are we still evolving? - is there evidence of adaptation in humans? Part of the assignment is to discuss the topic, so i was wondering what are other peoples opinions on the matter, and if where possible can you back your argument up by using recent article/experiments etc to back up your side of the argument Thanks Belief is the death of intelligence

There are quite a few threads in the forum on the subject, notably in the evolution forum. Some of the content might be interesting, much of it is slightly less so, will I say, showing my taste for understatement.
There is a search bar on top of every page (restrict search to the forum). I understand your desire for a well balanced and critiqued discussion, however, do not expect other to do your assignments for you, this is not what we do in here. A good way to show your dedication to do your own personal research would be for you to start the discussion showing what you have already... Patrick

oh no i do not expect people to do my work for me what so ever. Like i said i just wanted peoples views on the subject and the only reason i asked them to back this up is becuase i want their opinions based on fact rather then what they would like to believe is true.
At this moment in time i have been reading articles published by the HapMap consortium and the 1000 gnome project consortium. One that i believe to be pretty helpful and relevant to my topic is an article published by Voight et al 2006 - A map of recent positive selection in the human genome. So personally im more swayed to the argument that natural selection is a process that does happen. I also understand that there are a few threads, i have had a look through them, its just a matter of filtering out what i believe to be relevant or not. However i thank you for your reply and i hope to further continue this discussion Belief is the death of intelligence
