Bohr effect and Root effect

Postby Thonzo » Sun Mar 27, 2011 5:34 pm

Could someone explain the particular differences between the two?

What I do know (or think I know) Is that both are due to a decrease in PH by carbonic acid found produced in the tissues. H+ ions bind to hemoglobin which either decreases its affinity for O2 (the Bohr effect) or it decreased the O2 carrying capacity (the root effect).

What particular processes account for each independently?
