Differences Between Inorganic and Organic Catalysts

Postby webkurdu » Sun Mar 20, 2011 2:22 pm

Hi all,

I want to learn differences between inorganic and organic catalysts. I searched that , but I couldnt find anything.

I know that organic catalysts have carbon, inorganic catalysts dont have.

What are other differences.

Thanx for now.

I guess by organic catalysts you mean enzymes, rigth?

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

Yes maybe :D

But it is my exam's question. And question is :

"What are differences between organic and inorganic catalysts?"

I found this but that is not enough for me. I want to know more : http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 531AAiXaWD

I wouldn't rely on answers.yahoo.com too much. Like the answer you got is quite...

I don't know, whether there are some low-mol weight catalysts, but even if so, due to instability of organic compounds, they will probably work at much better conditions as 20-40°C, pH around 7, "normal" pressure, while inorganic catalysts usually require high temperatures, highly acidic or alkali pH and high pressure (think about hydrogenation on Pt or NH3 synthesis)
