Bacterial Genetics ProjectI am doing a bacterial genetics project in which I have to determine if a strain is F- or F+. I have already been able to determine this by inducing conjugation between a known F- strain and the original strain, however, I need to find a second way. I was hoping to somehow use florescent labeling to observe the sex pili, but I have not been able to figure out what materials I need. Is there some way to label a phage and observe the passing of genetic material from one cell to the other through the pilus?
I only have access to a light microscope. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you
