Fats within the bone marrow of long bones

Dear Bio community

I want to degrease a long bone, such that all marrow within it, is removed completely before i CT scan it.
Initially when I did it, i got something (may be a tissue of unknown type or a fat within the marrow) along the shaft which hampered my modelling process. And I have to take a new bone and start again.

Don't know what structure was it along the shaft. I treated the bone with Detergent and boiling water for 46 hours. I assume it was a kind of fat within the bone marrow that was not properly released. Do you suggest me something that help me getting rid of marrow and any fat in the hollow region of bone along the shaft? Do you think it would be fat? or some traces of marrow?

They suggest that boiling also push some of the fat inside the structure. Of course they do not adress the cleaning inside the bones. But some of the advice might be helpful.

Otherwise rather than detergent, boiling with an alkali will cause saponification of the fat, which should help with removal. However I do not know if that might damage the structure of the bone.

Alternatively if possible strong polar solvent might work.

Thanks Patrick. I have gone through this URL. However, I am just wandering, if that structure is a fat then saponification might be a good idea. Do you think using ammonia with water and detergent could be a better way ?
