i want to b a zoologist!!!!I am from Malaysia and I loved animals so much but my parents forbid me to become a zoologist. They said it is a useless occupation in M'sia.
So what should I do? Somebody please help me~

What should i do?
Hi, it's always difficult knowing what to study - it's a balance between doing something you find personally interesting, and something you can make a living out of!
Even if you/your parents decide that investing the time and money it will take to become a zoologist will not result in a 'decent job', then that does not mean you can't study zoology. There is always your spare time! Many, many (most?), people split their lives up so that they earn a living doing one thing, but keep an 'enjoyable' thing for their spare time. To be honest, anyone who can actually make a living doing something they really enjoy is on to a winner! And it's rare in this world, believe me. My advice therefore would be, firstly to research as much as you can about the job opportunities for zoologists in Malaysia or wherever you want to live, so you can present your parents with the strongest argument for (funding you?) through a zoology degree. Second, though, if either they remain obdurate, or the job opportunities are indeed pretty thin on the ground, is simply to keep zoology as your 'hobby' at least for the meantime. If you say you are keen on wildly conservation, that is something that amateurs (ie, people who can't make a living out of it as the jobs in that field are simply too scarce) can make a huge contribution to. Never understimate the power and potential of the dedicated amateur (maybe I should say 'volunteer' - the key point is they are not paid for their conversation work!). If you think about it, actually the most useful contribution you could make to animal conservation is to become stinking rich and then donate a lot of your money to it! Once you have enough money, you can spend far more/all of your time on doing what you love, not what you need to make a living/make money. Good luck - and it certainly isn't the end of the world if you follow your parents' advice and study something you can more easily make a living out of, and keep animal conservation as your spare-time passion.
Sakshi - yes, well, that depends on who's paying for your education, and how you are going to pay for your own keep, and your tuition, if you have to pay your own way!!!
Sheep, if I'm saying what your parents are saying then they are not 'forbidding' you. They are pointing out the various alternatives and possibilities you face. Bottom line in life - he who pays the piper calls the tune. Ie, if someone else is paying for you, you do what they want. If you want to do what you want, you pay for it yourself! True at any age.... All the best, Julie.
