Hello :oops: I need a little bit of help with a couple of questions concerning the Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium. Just a little bit :roll:

Question 1! A recessive allele codes for hair loss in chimpanzees. Homozygous recessive individuals lose their hair. Chimpanzees with one or two dominant alleles show no signs of this disorder. In a population of chimpanzees. sixteen percent of the population lose their hair.
i) Calculate the allele frequencies of A and a.
ii) What % of the chimpanzees could not be the parents of chimpanzees with this disorder.
iii) Hairless chimpanzees have reduced survival rates and less reproductive success. Hypothesize how the frequencies will change over time.

Question 2! A population of birds in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Twenty % of the bards have long tail feathers, which is a recessive trait. Determine the genotype and allele frequencies of the birds.

Question 3! LAST!!! :mrgreen: Allele Z is dominant, and is present in a population at a frequency of 37 per 100 individuals. Assuming the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, what proportion of individuals in the population would be expected to be homozygous dominant, heterozygous and homozygous recessive?

1) 16% is q^2, so you just calculate q (sqrt(0.16) = 0.4) and q + p MUST be 1, so calculate p (answer i).
ii) these are those, who do not have any a allele (i.e. homozygous dominant), so just calculate p^2
iii) if they have reduced survival rates and less reproductive success, will their proportion in the population rise or decline?

2) and 3) are all the same ;)
