How can I get propiobacterium for producing propanoic acid? How can I get propiobacterium for producing propanoic acid?
I am looking into producing propanoic acid by bacteria. It sounds interesting and useful to me to find a way to make it at home instead of buying it. its just kind of a hobby. Anyways, what do you guys know about this? can you find any good references for making it? All I know is posted in this thread here: http://thelaboratory.org/talk/index.php/topic,23.0.html A forum that applies biology and chemistry for the amateur scientist.

I gather from that link that you are not working in an accredited lab. So ordering pure cultures from accredited labs is impossible.
They give here the recipe for the medium to propagate the bacteria you are interested in: http://www.atcc.org/ATCCAdvancedCatalog ... e=bacteria There is a link to the paper where they isolated it (J. bacteriol 1972) should be available for free online. You can look up the protocol. Patrick

All right, thank you very much!
Can you find a link for J. bacteriol 1972? That was very helpful. And I don't have an accredited lab - so it makes it difficult. I wish there were more hobby amateur biologists Its lonely lol A forum that applies biology and chemistry for the amateur scientist.

Hmmmm...
I just gave you the journal (journal of bacteriology) and the year (1972), letting you retrieving the full reference from the webpage linked. Basic database searching abilities might be a helpful skill to develop. Pubmed, Agricola and Google scholar are your friends. You will find J. bact at jb.asm.org to start the search for your PDF Patrick
