cDNA hybridization

the cDNA produced using mature mRNA is not exactly complementary to the gene sequence, right? jst wondering how does the cDNA hybridize with the DNA? is it that only part of the cDNA hybridize with the complementary DNA sequence?

in microarray you use usually short pieces of DNA, which are supposed to be complementary, so you arrange them to the exons of course
