"The highly specialized genomes of bacterial endosymbionts typically lack one of the major contributors of genomic flux in the free-living microbial world—bacteriophages. This study yields three results that show bacteriophages have, to the contrary, been influential in the genome evolution of the most prevalent bacterial endosymbiont of invertebrates, Wolbachia. First, we show that bacteriophage WO is more widespread in Wolbachia than previously recognized, occurring in at least 89% (35/39) of the sampled genomes. Second, we show through several phylogenetic approaches that bacteriophage WO underwent recent lateral transfers between Wolbachia bacteria that coinfect host cells in the dipteran Drosophila simulans and the hymenopteran Nasonia vitripennis. These two cases, along with a previous report in the lepidopteran Ephestia cautella, support a general mechanism for genetic exchange in endosymbionts—the "intracellular arena" hypothesis—in which genetic material moves horizontally between bacteria that coinfect the same intracellular environment. Third, we show recombination in this bacteriophage; in the region encoding a putative capsid protein, the recombination rate is faster than that of any known recombining genes in the endosymbiont genome. The combination of these three lines of genetic evidence indicates that this bacteriophage is a widespread source of genomic instability in the intracellular bacterium Wolbachia and potentially the invertebrate host. More generally, it is the first bacteriophage implicated in frequent lateral transfer between the genomes of bacterial endosymbionts. Gene transfer by bacteriophages could drive significant evolutionary change in the genomes of intracellular bacteria that are typically considered highly stable and prone to genomic degradation."

HI ALL, I hope everybody is faring well...I had written a looong post on Sunday but before I could hit submit, my power went off and it was lost...that was frustrating! While I write this letter, my left leg is elevated and frankly it looks like something from a horror movie, kind of like chopped liver. I have open sores all over my leg that have been "glazed" over by the parasites and oozing exudate. The sores or lesions were caused by me and the parasites, me from constantly scrubbing the second skin that they keep secreting and that enzyme that they secrete which makes your skin break open, even when gently handled. On the remainder of my extremities, I have (seems like hundreds) of patches of embedded seeds (eggs) that I can sometimes scrape out using olive oil with my nails covered in a paper towel. I had just started a new program using the Natural Cellular Defense, made of zeolite particles. I was informed that parasites hated it, and yes they do...they poured into my left leg and weighed it down. They proceeded to the surface (under the skin), glazing my skin over eggs that was right under the skin, And initially I was using tea tree oil, enzyme cleaner and olive oil mixed together to remove the glaze but the parasites became more prolific in their tasks and soon as I removed it, it was back again. The integrity of my skin broke down and now my leg is covered in sores and the parasite's glaze. Thank you Sabrina for suggesting to use the olive oil (I was using it but not as much). The parasites glazes my knee so much, that the skin cracks everytime I try to bend it. I had to wait until Moday before I got my meds that was prescribed Friday because they were not in stock. I got the one day dosage of biltricide, 3 times a day and 6 mg of ivermectin, and Cipro. I read that Biltricide was toxic but I wanted at least 2 days dosage. Thanks for the kind words Befour and Nettimo. Nettiimo, my doctor is a infectious disease doctor, she initially gave me the albenza (over two months ago) that stopped the severe joint pain but then she started treating me like I was delusional when I informed her that there were still parasites in my ankles and that they would hatch out biting and crawling usually during the am hours. So I returned to her when these things started "glazing" me up to show her and that is why she is finally helping me again. I went to other doctors in between seeing her but they would not help me. She's referring me to a dermatologist to do skin samples and was surprised that all of them did not do it...and then on to a parasititologist...well...that's what she said. It's 2:48am on Tuesday and I started taking the meds on yesterday at 6:30 pm, but still these b#_at_%&$#_at_ glaze me....trying to be patient...s%&#, I might have to find Dr. Swartz in New Mexico...this is unreal wht I'm going through, and did I mention the pain...OMG!!!!

Dr. Schwartz's protocol is on page 21 of this thread.....it is the second post down. I hope it helps you, also the 1st post by Tam has some very good suggestions. I am going to print out the Dr.'s letter and take it to my doctor this Thursday. I have not been feeling well for about a month...well, worse than usual...like I only have half a brain.

I fell down our stairs (outside) about a month ago, while I was painting. There are 22 steps and I think I hit at least 11 of them. I didn't break anything and that still amazes me......but I had the hugest bruises I have ever seen, on both shoulder blades, my lower back. arms and thighs.

Sorry, I forgot what my point was, this is making me crazy! I think that I was going to say that I did not give my body a chance to heal and now I am paying for it. Even though I was as sore as h@ll, I never really rested or took it easy. Like I said, I'm not too bright these days! It brings me to the brink of tears when I have to pay bills, or any other kind of paperwork involving concentration. It's like that part of my brain is dead or paralyzed. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other, I just know that I am miserable and I want out of this body!! If crying is good for you, then I should be getting better......hope so!

HELLO, YIKEEES)))) I just awakened, and now I'm taking that 3rd and last biltricide pill and damn my leg has been re-glazed like a KRISPY CREME donut, okay does anyone know Dr.Swartz telephone number in New Mexico...just in case...this infectious disease doctor that I have is scared to give me meds but I rather meet my demise fighting these parasites than by letting them take over my body...little stubborn b@#$%^&#
won't let go of my leg...damn why could'nt a man love me like that? Just a little humor, but actually I'm very, very scared. My son came over Sunday with his pregnant girlfriend. He was beside himself with grief when he saw my leg, he keeps telling me to hold on, the baby will be born in November (poor sweetie thinks the birth of the baby will help heal me but stranger things have happened...but I can't even be around the baby like this)...I had expressed a desire to die at one time to him , I'm sad to say but I assured him that I'm fighting to live now (as I always have but I just got really depressed and stressed out one day). Thiry years is a long time to have this "condition", but yet I have a lot to learn because I have never been "Infested" this severely and have seen soooo much "stuff" come out of my legs...my infectious disease doctor is a glamour gal of sorts Nettimo, her name is Dr. Drayton, and she is open to suggestions but she is scared that she will kill me with the toxic meds. (And Nettimo I really would like to know more about your drug regiment)And I don't think she wants to be bothered with this...I feel no compassion from her but the ones that have compassion think I'm delusional, yeah, pretty much a no-win situation. But overall f%$# compassion, PRESCRIBE me the damn drugs I need to live!!! The morgy bugs are occasionally running around on the right leg and this new glaze was not that hard to remove in the new areas but I still have some areas that have layers of glaze that I have to ignore (take a bath and see what happens when you're missing a lot of skin...yeeeeech! The pain was staggering on the last few baths...I'm tempted to never bathe again...just kidding!). Morgellon/Fiber Disease needs a "Rock Hudson" as to AIDS and a "Michael J. Fox" as to Parkinson's...well it's about 10:21 and white pecks are slowly coming out of my skin...I did not intend to gross anyone out but I'm hoping this is helping someone out there that needs to read this...the Natural Cellular Defense is a good product though a little pricey but you don't want to use it when you are as heavily infested as I am, and if the doctors can't figure how to de-bug my ankles, these things will always multiply on me over and over again. I'll admit I'm very afraid but I'm a fighter, and always have been one. My whole outlook on life has changed, and I've noticed that certain things I don't want to tolerate anymore like the gossiping and the backbiting that goes on at work...life is too short...and while I used to listen to it but not say anything...I now simply walk away leaving people with gapped mouths. I still want to buy that jet ski and I will, I promise you I will...and I have a feeling that I will see a lot of you on television and/or writing books when CDC has to be forced to acknowledge this dreaded disease just as they had to be forced to recognize AIDS, and why in the hell should it be a problem for the United States to admit that they have new emerging diseases? Well, not really this is not new because I contracted this around 1972-1974 at a theatre, but I thought and the doctor thought lice and/or scabies but these things micmic lice/scabies until you get so infested that they morph on you and goes into many stages...I'm learning about them as they learn more and more about me and how to further antagonize me like biting me in the wounds on my legs...the b@#$%#_at_$!!!! OMG, they hurt coming out...need a little morphine over here I called my doctor's office on yesterday, and found that she was out of town so I asked if she would please prescribe something for the pain stronger than Tylenol, she refused. Morgellon sufferers need pain management too...for two months I walked and limped with severe joint pain until the albenza stopped the little f#$%&#_at_ from eating them. This is my fifth month of being heavily infested and going through all these different stages. And please know that I have not just been sitting on my butt writing posts, I have written senators, congressmen and CDC (and went to to CDC for what good it did or any of it for that matter). Maybe wishful thinking, but I would have thought that since this doctor is so afraid of me taking toxic drugs, she would have at least have her office to call and check up on me...and damn I'm scheduled to go back to work on Thursday!!??! It is so hard to believe that we are left to fend for ourselves in the great US of America!

I see you are sticking to your doc. I do think if we get past the DOP label with our doctors, they will start to investigate this. Mine has, and she is taking normal tests now, and then from there, I will continue in a very professional way dealing with her.

Most doctors are at a loss with this. I think many want to treat us, like your doc, relief seeker, but, like you say they are nervous about using and mixing certain drugs and have been told to limit antibiotics.

There is a reason for that. Too many can cause biofilm to form inside. However, have you asked for some kind of ointment to put on the lesions to stop the spread of them? That will help. If you cannot get one sulphur, if you can stand it, in a base then bandage the larger ones. I have found that Vicks, because of the methylatum will ease pain and will discharge some juveniles out. It will also ease the itching. It has a cooling effect.

If you can use a wrap over the leg, with old towels, or clean rags then wrap with a loose wrap will keep them isolated. The one on my chin has spread, but, I put Vicks on at night, and the itching subsides as does the pain. The stuff will come off onto the bandage. But, a level of keeping them moist and yet the bandage absorbing them might ease some pain and itching.

It seems a balance has to had between the dryness and flakyness and the damp lesion itself. The other thing is noxema which may help heal too.

If gets itchy wash with betadine, but, this has a drying effect, so follow with the Vicks.

Over the years I see about 5 stages in this. The beginning is either started by a bug or spore, then it initializes itself into the skin and then spreads, like eggs being laid and then growing in hair follicles. Is stem cell related for sure, because it goes right into the follicles base. I found that there are blood bases there, that is why it is the easiest way into the body, through the follicles. A thrix type of thing seems to start the whole thing. Then like scabies it spreads under the skin.

Hope I have helped. I have found some info that involves a thrix type thing, but, I will have to read it over again, so to understand and then will present it on my blog.

It may explain a few things, but, I cannot say that this organism or ones like it are IT, but, will investigate it further.

Hang in there you two, I know it is a pain, but, do keep your chins up. I am keeping mine up because when I have my head down, the lines where these buggers are seem to increase their devilish attitude. So, I put my head up to stretch them out of those creases. Seems they love creases. I am an older citizen, so have age slapping me down too, but, nevertheless, I will continue to accept age as it comes, and still fight this horrible thing.

Gosh Befour, my heart goes out to you...yes, me too I'm neglecting to pay bills on time and it's online...the money is in the bank but I can't think that hard. My meds yesterday ran me $149.00...one doctor wrote me a prescription for cortisporin, the little 1/2 ounce ointment cost $50.00 with insurance. But not be able to work and get ovetime to help pay for all of this crap is going to put me in a bad way...will probably have to change life style drastically. Befour, just know that others are going through this too, and we are here for you...I will leave my telephone # if you want to talk...thanks for the info on Dr. Schwartz. I'm trying to be patient but I'm not seeing much and these damn things are still glazing my left leg and partially my right leg. My left leg now feels as if it weighs 200 lbs. Hope you don't end up with cellulitis and end up in the hospital.
My sister's siter-in-law broke out with this about a month ago, spewing white fibers from her face and upper extremities, and now has passed a 3" white worm from her intestines. She got DOP, one refusal to treat, but now has a homeopath/MD working with her.

My sister saw a Chinese doctor who gave her herbs as tea, and she is passing what look like worms from her GI tract. She is also still waiting to hear about her specimen re. it resembling a disease known in horses. I wonder if it is ganders, or its relative B. pseudomelioidae(sp), both of which are said to be potential bioterrorism agents...(not that I don't believe our govt is incapable of doing us in all of its own accord with lax laws governing big business).

Good luck. I think we should share more ideas of "what works" for those of us who need to try something else....Perhaps we would list it under "Subject" at top of screen, so we could call it all up at once when we need to review options for treatment, even if only palliative...

Skytroll and Nettimo, I'm trying hard to be strong but I'm so scared...cellititus maybe a concern but these parasites are gelling and grazing my leg so very tight and it is constricting me...I can't keep cleaning it with soap and water...it removes the skin but I keep using olive oil...I have relief for about 5 minutes if that...it appears that the medicine is not working...I can't straighten my leg, they are making it hard and stiff that is the major problem...they are secreting something unto my leg that I can't get off without taking off my skin...I have 3 different kinds of antibiotics if needed...the parasites GOT my left leg

I can't believe how gullible I have been, when I called the infection disease doctor's office this past Monday she was out of town but her secretary contacted her and extended my doctor's excuse until Thursday, she has never said that I had a followup visit...she referred me to a dermatologist...I was given a polite brush off and did not even realize it...I hope that I'm wrong...sorry to take up so much space on this thread very scared of losing leg...I will get her to put me in the hospital and turn it over to another doctor...I forgot doctors have peer pressure too...and some yield to it...damn and to make matters worse people are trying to find out what is wrong with me on my job...they don't call but they are badgering another coworker. The last night that I worked I screamed out in pain on one occasion but I only talked to a doctor...I hope he has not said anything...when it rains, it obviously pours...
