Active transport

Postby Nicolodn » Sat Sep 18, 2010 6:50 am

In active transport, the affinity of the carrier protein for the molecule being transported is greater on which side of the membrane? Answer: on the side where the molecule is in lower concentration.
COuld someone explain this please?

Pumps are different from carrier proteins in that they use energy to move
ions: (1 mark)
a) In the direction determined by that ion's chemical gradient only
b) Down their electrochemical gradient
c) In the direction determined by that ion's electrochemical gradient
d) In any direction they choose across the membrane
e) In a preferred direction across the membrane
Thanks

1) on the side from which it is supposed to pump the ion, otherwise it would pump it in the other direction ;)

2) e)

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
