Flies that look like mosquitos

I have noticed a number of flies turning up in my bedroom, on a routine basis, that look a lot like mosquitoes.

Unlike mozzies, they have slightly more spindly legs and don't emit the same high pitched whine, and don't seem to come directly for me. But they have a similar body and pointy nose.

Any ideas what these are? Bearing in mind I live in the UK.
