"Living" plants?

Hi, I would like to know if someone is familiar with some method, that can help me identify weather the plant still lives (some metabolic processes are being done )? I've heard that fluorescence method can be used for this aim too, but I'm not sure. Thanks for advices .

the is some red color, which passes cell membranes only of dead cells, but that will kill your plant anyway, I guess.
You may try to plant it and if is it still viable, it should grow. Maybe if you were more specific...
