Nutrients in the body

Postby Boomting » Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:55 pm

Hi everyone
Sorry if this is in the wrong section :)
I have a question which I don't understand and was wondering if someone could give me an example for one so I could do it :D

Question - For each of the essential nutrients i.e. carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, Vitamins etc (not writing them all haha) describe their chemical nature and their structural or metabolic roles in the body.

I don't understand what chemical nature and the structural or metabolic roles are? Could someone give me an example or something?
You don't have to use one of the above as I'm not asking you to do my work just need help haha
Thank you :D

like how you would consume proteins, break them down, metabolize them, then use the amino acids to build and synthesize other proteins your body needs. Chemical nature woud be how you could tell what it was through its chemical structure. For example, proteins are very large and consist of amino acids, which have nitrogen in them. Lipids, however, usually do not because they are hydrocarbons.

I think you need a full revision of the biology which we used to read in our school days.
