Advantages of traditional cytogenetics over PCR

What would you define as traditional cytogenetic methods? Are they simply banding techniques, or is there more to it?
I can think of plenty of advantages of PCR over this is cytogenetic studies but what are the advantages of ttraditional methods over PCR?

What about FISH?

Well, by PCR you can determine presence/absence. You can even determine number of copies, but you can't determine position in your genome
