Will the ecology system balance by itself?

Postby chinwangt » Sun May 02, 2010 5:06 am

I am a new guy here, and have a question about the ecosystem on earth. Our human being have affecting the system of our planet very much, some species of animals might totally erase from the ecosystem, can anybody tell me will there some species of animals will replace their position in the food chain?

p.s. my English actually no very well so my question might be a little bit confusing, sorry
You are always on the top of the world, but remember, the world will turn upside down every 24 hours.

Of course it will balance. If there will be some step in food chain missing, some other organism will shortly substitute.
The other possibility is, that the current (speaking of local) ecosystem would collapse (imagine some introduction of animal without predators and killing naturally occurring animals) and then would shortly evolve new ecosystem ;)
(but probably not much different from previous)

If the animals on the food chain were to disappear (from the food chain that is, not become extinct) and all that was left was plants (every organism a herbivore), then that would be fine by me.

There is a lot of nonsense spoken about the balance of nature, as if it were some fragile thing, easily shattered. It is not. It is a dynamic and constantly changing thing.

If you introduce some new variable into an ecosystem, the balance will rapidly change to compensate, but a different balance will then exist. Of course, you may not necessarily like some of the changes. Such as animals going extinct.
