Unknown Id. BacteriaRecently started doing unknown identification tests in lab. So far I have found out it is gram neg. Bacilli & a gram pos. cocci. My one clue is "patient presented with abdominal pain & tenderness" & the blumberg sign. Preliminary diagnosis is peritonitis. I was thinking it might be escherichia coli or klebsiella pneumonia and the gram pos. could be staph. aureus? But I'm not sure and I dont know what my next step should be.
Re: Unknown Id. Bacteriahoping to get alitle help with an unknow bacteria that i have. i have done several different tests and i have narrowed it down to either Bacillus cereus or Bacillus megaterium. wondering if it could possibly be Bacillus subtilis. but i think i have cancelled that one out. here is my test and results see what you might think.
glucose acid: + glucose gas: - lactose acid: - lactose gas: - mannitol acid: - mannitol gas: - sucrose acid: + sucrose gas: - methyl red test: + voges-proskauer test: + catalase: + oxidase: + hydrogen sulide production: - citrate: - phenylalanine deamination: - starch: + gelatine: + indole: - urea: + leaning more towards cereus. thanks bebe
@nikolette21 - i would say E.coli for your G-. if you have staph aureus try a beta-hemolytic test. I forgot what they're called. to distinguish between s.aureus and s. epidermis.
@bebe2 - when you did a gram stain, were the bacteria in chains or not? that would distinguish them from each other. "There is no adequate defense, except stupidity, against the impact of a new idea."
