It's driving me crazy. Someone posted an advertisement for a free cat and used this picture... it's hilarious... but what is it really?

It's a brushtailed possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) Don't know which subspecies it is though.

Possum as others suggested but I am not really sorry. Whoever gets their hands on that "kitten" is in for a surprise ;-)

It is a native of Australia. However, here in New Zealand it was introduced in the mid 1800's to support a fur trade. It quickly reproduced out of control and is now a major pest. Anyone wants some, we got about 100 million to give away!
