What animal is this? Is it a type of yak?My family has this animal head hanging on the wall above our fireplace and we have never known what it actually is. I was wondering if anyone knew what it was.
I hope that you can help me out. Thankyou.
Hmmh, doesn't look like a yak to me :)
As far as I know, yaks have upwards-pointing horns and are even sturdier than the fellow in your pic. If the glass eyes are true to the original animal, it is probably not a wild goat either (the pupils dont look like your typical goat pupils, which are vertical). So I'd go for an antelope of some sort, maybe. The animal looks very familiar though, I'm sure some of our zoologists can easily tell. Let's wait for what they say!
Re: What animal is this? Is it a type of yak?Thankyou for your great answer.
Yeah, the horns look quite wide for most antelopes. But then again, there are dozens of antelope species and they have dozens of horns! :P
Anyways, I admit it might be something else. It looks very familiar, it's frustrating that I cannot identify it properly >:)
Hmmh, maybe it's a goat after all. At least these guys have very similar horns and general appearance:
http://www.wallpaperbase.com/wallpapers ... goat_2.jpg Those eyes in the original picture just don't look like the very distinctive goat eyes seen even in the pic I posted (if you look carefully). But the actual eye type is quite hard to tell from the original pic, and the glass eyes might even not be similar to the original ones. Thus, I declare it as a goat of some type! At least for the time being :D
Yeah, I know, that there are plenty of them, but still, they all look kind of similar
http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxonimages/id33698/?type=1 At least, they are not twisted like that But I agree with the goat thing. Or maybe something like muflon http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Re:
The picture in this post looks exactly like the one on our wall. Is there any chance of identifying what the type and name is of this goat? Thanks for your time in helping to solve our ongoing mystery. We have had him for nearly 8 years and were originally told he was a Malaysian yak. Obviously not true. Biohazard, are you a zoologist or similar?
Re: Re:
Heh, nope sorry. I'm a cell biologist / biotechnologist, so if something's bigger than few micrometers its waaaay too be to me! Well, half kidding on the last part. I've always been very interested in animals and I can recognize a fair deal of them, but I'm not a zoologist so I don't have a "professional" answer for you, just an educated guess. But I tried to put some reasoning along my answers so you others could know why I came to the given conclusion :)
Well, even Mr. Google doesn't know Malaysian yak
But it doesn't seem like regular yak http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxon/id33801/ http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Re: What animal is this? Is it a type of yak?so there is still no definate answer then?
