random scatter of points for ecological samplingHi,
I have a mapped area bounded by straight lines, & know the co-ordinates of the corners (it's not a simple shape such as a square or rectangle). I wish to randomly scatter a number of points throughout the area, & record their co-ordinates for GPS field location. Is there an on-line option for this (I just have common MS Windows programs, & AutoCAD)? Cheers.
I don't know of any programs that do that, but here's one option:
Choose an origin within your area and use Excel to generate random x and y values. Map those that fall within your area? Don't know if that would work or if you've thought of it, but I thought I'd give it a try
i have an idea
but nothing related to the software. get the map on a hard copy and throw a small marble on it and wherever it falls is the coordinate not very feasible but thought this might help. it isn't what you do that matters but it is how you do it
