Difference between stereo vision and one-eyed vision

Hi,

just want to know one thing:

Acccording to theory, 3D vision is only possible with two eyes. So if I closed one of my eyes, the 3D image should fall apart and I would see in 2D only. Why doesn't that apply to real life? To me there is no much difference in vision either with one or two eyes except for the different viewing angle.

The only explanation I could come up with is that the brain has learned through experience to trick me into believing to see 3D while there's only a 2D image showing up.

What are people's opinion/experience on this?

You make certain inferences such as closer objects are larger than farther ones, parallel lines converge towards the horizon etc.

And no your vision is definitely not the same. Have a friend throw you a ball and try to catch it without depth perception. Your performance will be much worse especially without training.
