Question About Shunt Cerebral Placement

Postby Miranda » Tue Jul 12, 2005 10:24 am

I am a hydrocephalic and several years after having a third ventriculostomy I need a shunt placed again. In 2000 my nuerosurgeon decided on the third ventriculostomy because of the difficulty in placing a shunt. At that point I had nearly twenty shunt replacements under my belt and during the last placement they had great difficulty finding a place to put the tubing because of excessive scar tissue.

My question to anyone who might know is....Can this situation improve over time? Is it possible that they will have an easier time finding a placement site for the tubing. I know that for a long time after having multitudes of blood draws and several pic line I.V.'s that it was very difficult to find a vein and place a needle of I.V. tubing. However, after a period of time it became easier and now they have no trouble at all. I am hoping that there might be the same improvement for the shunt placement sites. I would appreciate any imput.
:)

Thanks :

I think that improvements will go up by time..But the thing that makes me wonder is the excessive tissu..I think it's because lack of certain enzymes..
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
