please help me with an essay about hermaphroditesHey,
I've to do an essay about hermaphrodites. We have five questions to put into that essay and answer it. I already have the first and last. 1) What is a hermaphrodite. 5) How does a hermaphrodite animal reproduce? I now need THREE questions that'll eventually lead from the first to the last question. They all must be relevant to each other, or something. Please help.
Hermaphrodites are animals with both male and female sex organs.
When two of the same species encounter one another they can mate by exchanging sperm to fertilize each others eggs. This trait is often found in species such as earthworms. Any two worms can mate leading to a higher reproductive rate than if they had to search out a member of the opposite sex at their slow rates of movement.
Re:
I think, that some of the even simpler organisms can fertilizes themselves, don't they? http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Since one of your questions is regarding animal hermaphroditism, you could pose a question about monoecious plants (monoecious plants have both male [pollen] and female [ovules] reproductive organs). Usually the reproductive cycle of such plants is pretty interesting, and you could compare and contrast the plant cycle to the animal cycle. Also, you may want to touch upon the advantages and disadvantages of hermaphroditism from a propagation viewpoint, and perhaps a genetic/physiological perspective as well. Hope this helps!
