is this the radicle or plumule for a dwarf bean?(pic inside)hi everyone. i am currently growing seeds for a germination practical and we are meant to record the length of the plumule and radicle. however, i cannot distinguish between the plumule/radicle with the current seeds i am growing. i read somewhere that the radicle is meant to emerge first...
![]() sorry for the poor sketch, but there's not much more to it than this. is this the plumule or radicle? can anyone confirm whether the radicle ALWAYS emerges first? -Mohammed
Radicle will be white in colour and you can observe root hairs even with a hand lens. It will try to grow towards gravity. Perpendicular to it, plumule will emerge and soon turn green (if you are exposing it to light).
BTW, which seeds have you planted? From your fig. they look like beans.
Yeah, the root would never photosynthesis, unless maybe it was an epipyhtic plant such as a few genera of orchid. Otherwise the root would die of high levels of oxygen and sunlight.
