what is gametophyte?what is gametophyte?i was told the structure that bears gamete is gametophyte.but when u look for gymnosperm, endosperm is called female gametophyte.then does endosperm give female gamete?
Gametophyte is the haploid phase of plant life. E.g. by mosses, it's the complete plant, which you can see and sporophyte grows on it and is fed by it.
Probably you mean by flowering plants. Here is it reduced to megagametophyt (the ovum, female reproduction cell) and microgametophyte (pollen and pollen tube). The endosperm comes from second fertilization, when the second sperm cell fertilizes diploid central cell. So it is triploid http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
