Urgent questionI have browsed these boards for quite some time but I do not appear to have found the answer to a question bothering me for a while.
Namely, there is an interesting issue which I would like to discuss with you here at this very forum, which has drawn my attention as soon as it appeared on Google. But I digress. Here is the question in question: Can a pigeon lay an egg containing a cactus? If so, would the cactus be able to fly? I thank you in advance and look forward to a detailed scientific explanation. As we in Mongolia say, Zungulf batakk veshmashina!
Re: Urgent questionhow do we define reproduction?
It is ability to produce offspring of its own kind.so if a pigeon lays eggs it can give rise to a pigeon varying from her but couldnot give rise to a cactus.even if it is possible by genetic engineering then also the cactus can never ever fly because its a cactus(a plant) not a bird. The plant dont have such evolved genes as birds have
Wait, wait, you have stated that cactuses are plants.
But if so, why do they have spikes all over them? They live in a desert, they don't need to defend from anything. Aren't those spikes remnants of bird teeth that cacti possessed at some point of evolution - back when they were birds?
Re:
Yes cactus are plants. They live in the desert, and there are quite a lot of plant eaters there, so yes they need defenses against grazing. Bird do not have teeth, they have a beak and I wonder how you would compare teeth that would be located in the mouth and spikes located all over the plant. May I suggest limiting the consuption of certain plant or fungal extracts... Patrick

lol this is a pretty funny thread, but i must disagree, those spikes look more like the remnants of an alien race of flying maces that are currently being held in Area 51. Now Pigeons are the descendants of an alien civilization that had humanoid legs and bird wings. The reason a cactus could not be from a Pigeon egg is because those 2 alien races fought each other to the point extinction, there was never any common ancestry between them. Oh, also pigeons dont have teeth, because they were a peaceful race.
