Personal Genomics AdvancementStanford Professor Stephen Quake announced today that he sequenced his own genome cheaper and faster than anyone else before? Any thoughts?

well knome.com will sequence your genome for $100,000. Considering they're a commercial company and they have to make a profit, I don't find it surprising what the Stanford scientists did. The $1000 human genome is definitely in sight
"As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
But the cost, man-hours, and general time of the Stanford achievement is amazing. Only a three person team in just a few weeks. I would be surprised if Knome could match up with that, even if they are commercial.

Well considering the amount of data obtained by pyrosequencing, I am not amazed.
From what I understand, now the problem is not to have enough read, it is the assembly. And since they already had an available genome to serve as template, it greatly helps that step too. But it still required probably a few nice computers working hard for those few days. But good for them anyway. Patrick
