Francesco Redi fly experiment question

i was in my biology class and my teacher was unsure of some of the variables. I was wondering what type of variable the flies in the experiment would be. dependant, independant, experimental factor etc. if you'd like to list off all of the variables that would help immensely. thank you very much.
