the increase is caused by above-ground nuclear test between 1955 and 1963 which unloads masses of c14 into atmosphere.
however c14 level has been dropping steadily after 1963 partial test ban treaty

....so...how else do we date fossils? I'm most curious about those 40,000 years and older.....
