Methods for quantification and assessment for purity?

Postby marikas » Wed Apr 22, 2009 7:01 am

What are the ways DNA can be quantified and assessed for purity?

We need to check the concentration of DNA and also its purity before running the PCR right?
How do we do this? what methods are there to help us with this? I have found one so far which is spectrophotometric measurement at 260 and 280nm

are there any others?

thank you

I can't rally think of any other.
But you test your DNA before PCR? This is rarely necessary, you can easily PCR whole bacteria (the first boiling step will usually kill them and release enough DNA to amplify).
