I'm gonna see PZ Meyers!Yeah that's right. PZ Meyers is comin to town and I get to see him. Maybe even have a beer with him afterwards!

Re: I'm gonna see PZ Meyers!Yeah! So PZ was pretty cool. Soft spoken - surprisingly. The guy running the show had to ask him to speak louder, into the microphone. Anyway - he spent most of the time talking about the fallacies of ID logic and going into details of specific examples of cases that discredited ID. He addressed irreducible complexity and the argument that DNA could not become more "complex"; among others.
I had the opportunity to have a beer with him afterward, but sadly I had to work early the next day and had to drive a pretty long ways home that night. *sigh* Oh well. Maybe next time. What did the parasitic Candiru fish say when it finally found a host? - - "Urethra!!"

Re: I'm gonna see PZ Meyers!I believe it. He's definitely put weight on since his time in office. I'd be pretty stoked to meet him. Was he doing the whole Inconvenient Truth bit, or was it some other presentation?

Err, he was here to throw a shovel of dirt on the new global economic policy center or something like that.

Oh yes, a small bit of manual labor designed to be as easy as possible, and everyone cheers and applauds. Don't you find it funny how we get so worked up over ceremony and formality that really serves almost no purpose at all in the real world?
Generally speaking, the more people talk about "being saved," the further away they actually are from true salvation.

Ah but you forget that our pomp and ceremony helps improve our chances of going to the Land of Magical Fairies and Other Nice Things!

about al gore. When he was over here a few months ago he told a nice story. apparently a woman told him in a diner "You know if you dye your hair black and loose some weight, you'll look just like Al Gore!" Funny
Oh yeah, we just had the Dalai Lama over last week. I had a genetics presentation I had to attend then. That kinda made me mad. "I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I want to understand the universe and answer the big questions, that is what keeps me going" - Stephen Hawking
I hope you gave your professor hell for making you miss the Dalai Lama

well the presentation was scheduled long before the Dalai Lama's visit, so I couldn't really object much to it.
Besides, he'll probably be over again sometime in the next 3 years, everyone loves to come visit us.. "I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I want to understand the universe and answer the big questions, that is what keeps me going" - Stephen Hawking
