Do the staminate flowers of Quercus sp. ever form petals?Hello botany forum. This is my first post and I have what I hope is an easy question for a knowledgeable student/professional.
The staminate flowers of Quercus alba (white oak) feature five or six sepals but apparently no petals. I'm wondering, do the staminate flowers of Quercus alba (or any Quercus species) feature petals at any point during their development? For instance, are petals possibly there during development, but then absorbed? Thanks for any info! Coaster

Re: Do the staminate flowers of Quercus sp. ever form petals?Looks like no petals:
http://books.google.com/books?id=2TV-zD ... #PPA143,M1 See page 143. Look at item G. That's a floral diagram for the family. Co 0 means Corollas 0 - no petals. What did the parasitic Candiru fish say when it finally found a host? - - "Urethra!!"
Re: Do the staminate flowers of Quercus sp. ever form petals? That is really beautiful. yes the staminate flowers of Quercus alba (white oak) affection 5 or six sepals but allegedly no petals.
