Muscle Soreness- Lactic Acid?Moderator: BioTeam

Muscle Soreness- Lactic Acid?I have heard that muscle soreness after a good workout is due to your body sending lactic acid to the muscles being used to break them down for a fast energy source, and then i have heard that this is not the case but it is the snapping of muscle microfibers and some other technical things.
Could someone please explain the process which causes this pain or provide a reliable source of this infomation, your help is greatly appreciated, Joe A wise man once said to me:
"Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Only the fittest chickens cross the road.
Re: Muscle Soreness- Lactic Acid?A pubmed search for "delayed-onset muscle soreness" will help.
As for lactate, it's not thought to be the case for DOMSl - lactate (not lactic acid) is produced at increased rates by skeletal muscle during relatively intense contractions via anaerobic glycolysis and secreted into the blood. There, it serves as a chemical buffer. From there, it largely is used by the liver (gluconeogenesis) or the heart (oxidation). "Lactate is your friend".
Thanks i never knew about pubmed before.
I keep reading though that lactic acid is a product of anerobic cellular respiration, is this true? of if so is this what causes DOMS? A wise man once said to me:
"Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Only the fittest chickens cross the road.
The hypotheses and data about this change periodically. The only agreement seems to be on what generates the lactate - the stages and mechanisms after that have several competing theories, with a new one, it seems, every couple of years.
Re: Muscle Soreness- Lactic Acid?Lactic acid produced by the body while carrying out anaerobic processes to produce energy for the movement of muslce when oxygen is insufficient due to "oxygen use up rate faster then oxygen we intake by breathing in".
Actually lactic acid got alot energy left too so we break it down to use them up. Normally cause fatigue, I dun think it cause muscle soreness. I think muscle soreness is when you went beyond your own body muscle ability especially during training. This is to build them up as time goes, as so what call... adaptation period. But if this soreness doesnt goes away after 2 to 4 days. please seek doctor examination. It might be sprain or something else.
