Need help with two questions; (cells, & the cytoplasm)

Q6. Explain why it is necessary for even simple cells to contain several hundred genes.

I'm at a blank here.

(Note, Q7 is to do with cytoplasms.)

Q7. b) Of which type of chemical compound are they made?

I think it's protein molecules, but are protein molecules classified as a chemical compound? Do I have to say it's made out of amino acid subunits or something? I'm confused.

There's nothing vague about these questions. The 1st is intuitively obvious as Zorro implies. The second is a simple matter of chemistry,

It's vague because the cytoplasm contains a lot more stuff than just proteins...including water, inorganic salts, lipid polymers etc etc. What "type" would this fall under? Even if we take a broader definition and pretend that they're asking for types, there's still a lot of leeway in defining what exactly a type is.
