Document on CHO

I'm doing with CHO K1 and CHO dhfr-, but I don't have much information about them. I want to know their origin, biochemistry and physiology. If someone know webs or aticles, etc...about them, would you mind sharing with me ?

To einstein: CHO is chinese hamster ovary, a commercial cell line for producing pharmaceutical proteins
By the way, I have a question: There are many kind of CHO (eg. CHO K1, CHo dhfr-) available commercially, but they all lack of biosynthetic pathway of proline. Why isn't CHO which can grow in medium no proline used ?

I don't know, but I am willing to make a wild guess.

Perhaps there is enough available proline in a Chinese hamster ovary that the wild-type cells are missing a functional gene for proline biosynthesis.

Like I said, this is a guess. Does anyone have a more solid idea about this?

Oh, I think your idea may be possibly right. I don't know whether CHO really is popular cell line used on the wold beacause I've found it very much but what I gained is little than I expect. Can you see me any lab doing with this cell ?
