comparison CTAB method and commercial kit

Postby rsegreto » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:20 pm

Hi,

We have to decide if to use the Ctab method or a commercial kit for the extraction of plant DNA. We compared the prizes for each extraction and they are not so different to justify the use of the CTAB. Does anybody know if there are other advantages beside the prize, such as the amount of DNA obtained or the DNA size or purity, to choose the CTAB method respect the kits?

Thank you in advance for any suggestion

This will be a trade-off depending on your needs. Kits generally offer good purity at the expense of yield. You will also need to factor in the number of samples for processing - kits can be handy for large sample sizes.
