Skin Cancer/DNA damage/ Cell division Question?- Scientists believe that some cancers are hereditary. One form of cancer is caused by ultraviolet radiation such as the type produced by the sun. It causes damage to the DNA that controls cell division. Disabling the control mechanisms for mitosis can result in various forms of skin cancer. Could this type of cancer be passed on to one's offspring? Explain with specific reference to mitosis and meiosis.
rough answer I have; Cancer comes from mutations within the cells that negate inhibitors and cause the cells to reproduce uncontrollably resulting in a tumor or growth. The UV rays you are referring to actually cause the mutations themselves and therefore this type of cancer would not be passed down through hereditary means. I need something more solid, help please?
