nucelllar embryonyWhat is the technique used to distinguish nucellar embryony from the zygotic one? Can anyone provide me the answer please....
Hey there, I'm going to assume this is based on citrus plants (mmmm) since many citrus plants produce both zygotic and polyembryonic offspring I would first figure out if the offspring was produced through fertilization (zygotic) or cloned from the nucellar tissue (polyembryonic).
Nucellar embryony will produce identical offspring. Zygotic will require fertilization and will not produce identical offspring. There are many methods you could use depending on the time, information and resources given to you. Compare phenotypes of the parental and offspring generations, grow a sample of the offspring's nucellar tissue and compare it to it's parent, excise the reproductive organs and observe for reproduction. If it's a common citrus plant you may find a picture of a gel. Perform your own electrophoresis and compare. If the offspring may have came about from fertilization you'll need to perform various test crosses, assuming you don't have crazy bio-informatics resources. I only work with fruit flies though lol..
