Yeast buddingModerator: BioTeam

Yeast buddingHello,
I began an experiment on yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and I would like to ask if anybody knows any media or factor that induces budding in yeast. The base media I use is YPD (yeast, peptone, d-glucose). Thank you in advance.
Re: Yeast buddingSince Saccharomyces divides by budding, anything that promotes growth promotes budding. But I suspect you want to use synchronized cultures so that most of the viable cells will be budding at roughly the same time. You could go look up E.B. Lewis' papers on cdc genes. I'm sure they describe the process. There is at least one summary of protocols to synchronize yeast cultures: http://www.springerprotocols.com/Abstra ... 9-646-0:55
