Is biology for me?Hi there,
Sooo I've just had my last exam of my undergrad (hopefully I passed everthing)... but am now confused as to what the next step is...Since first year I've been only getting in the B's and C range (with 1 fail and prob one for this semester but lets not think the worst Thanks, b_06er
I know some of students, who have a number of failing marks and below average GPA and somewhat manage to land on better jobs than straight A students, because of their theses and researches.
I don't know if this one is applicable to science majors. But I know another alumni from our university (but she was an accounting student), who almost got kick out during her undergraduate years due to accumulated failures. But change her ways in graduate. She graduated magna cumlaude and got a 90%+ her accounting board exam score. She is now a well paid manager at a multinational company. With your situation right now, it would be difficult to determine if biology is really for you. You still have alot of of time to prove yourself in your field or change your career, if you feel it is a dead end. But like mith said, you better talk to one of your professors. I am from the Philippines. So the employment situation there is far different from ours. Anyways, good luck! "Getting ahead in a difficult profession requires avid faith in yourself. That is why some people with mediocre talent, but with great inner drive, go much further than people with vastly superior talent." (Sophia Loren)
When applying for a research-oriented grad school, research is more important than your grades (what GPA are we talking? There's a difference between a B and a C)
"I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I want to understand the universe and answer the big questions, that is what keeps me going" - Stephen Hawking
Re: Is biology for me?GPA's are like owning a brand new car. When you first get the car you protect it like a child, but after the first door ding it just does not matter so much.
Re: Is biology for me?Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies..well atm by GPA is 4.5 (though GPA systems are diff. throughout the world) but in NZ 9 I think is the highest..got a few months till uni starts up again but basically why I worry is that there is so many people out there that get good grades that not only will it be hard to try and be part of a lab but also to try and find a job should I choose to get some experience (lab) before going back to uni..arrrrg!!... Anyways..will keep thinking and once marks come out will indeed go talk to some1 at uni bout it.. cheers, b_06er
Re: Is biology for me?Well B and C's aren't too bad, this is university things are different than in high school. If you love bio, than do it!!
Just because you are getting B's and C's doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue it. I know many people that get A's in school but when you try to have a convo with them about an issue they really don't know what they are talking about.
