How does a mutated gene affect Tyrosine Kinase?

I came upon a question asking about how a mutated gene, that codes for a receptor tyrosine kinase, would affect the signaling of the normal receptor in two conditions:

1) If the mutation coded a receptor which lacked its extracellular domain
2) If the mutation coded a receptor which lacked its intracellular domain

I think that in both instances the signaling of the normal receptor would be inhibited because if it lacked its extracellular domain, it would not even be able to receive the signal and if it lacked its intracellular domain, it would not be able to transmit the "message" to the rest of the cell.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I believe you are correct, in both instances the signal transduction would be inhibited.
1) the receptor is not able to bind the ligand properly, therefore no conformational change would occur
2) the receptor bound the ligand, but the lack of intracellular domain stopped the further transduction events e.g. activation of G-proteins...
