Looking for an article to present in class

Postby BioGradStudent » Thu Oct 09, 2008 1:06 am

Hi, I am looking for an article to present in my class (first semester grad school.) We are looking at it from a critical point of view, not just summarizing what was done. It need to be from one of the following journals: Cell, Molecular Pharmacology, Cellular Microbiology, or Molecular Cell Biology. And it needs to be recent.

I am having a hard time with the article that I chose and am looking for a new one. I need to have one where I can understand it without too much prior knowledge.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't have any specific papers to suggest, but as a general principle I would choose an area that interests me. For me that would be an x-ray crystal structure paper of some sort, probably, but for you--I dunno--what's your favorite thing to read about? (I guess pulp fiction doesn't count here.}

I think they just sequenced a virus that kills cancer cells.

I asked a similar question a few months ago, as my micro class requires me to keep abreast of current developments in research. I was led to this excellent website that I have found to be very useful:

American Society of Microbiology

I think this is an intriguing paper:
König H, Matter N, Bader R, Thiele W, Müller F. Splicing segregation: the minor spliceosome acts outside the nucleus and controls cell proliferation. Cell. 2007 Nov 16;131(4):718-29.

There is some controversy and followup letters, which makes the story more interesting.
