Haematocrit and Packed Cell Volumes

Hi there,

What is the significance of lower % PCVs or higher % PCVs in blood (mixed with saline solutions)? We did an experiment and there is a decreasing trend between PCV and NaCl ... Does the low PCV indicate that more cells has lysed (at the higher NaCl conc)? How would you tell which concentration of saline is isotonic? :?

Your help will be much appreciated

0.9% is isotonic. And you would expect more cell lysis at lower concentrations...

How would you tell which concentration of saline is isotonic?


Cell appearence should give a clue.
