Please help!What exactly happens in the semicurcular canals when a person begin to spin off balance?
As far as I understand, during normal rotational movement endolymph in semicircular canals moves in the opposite direction of the body's rotation due to inertia, that causes cilia in crista ampullaris to bend in one ear and the other into the opposite directions. This causes in one ear hyperpolarization and depolarization in the other. Impulses are send to vestibular apparatus and cerebellum, that further initiate appropriate compensation to keep your body balanced. If this is correct, than what happens when we spinn off balance? There is an unequal nerve impulse?
I found this I'm not too sure if it answers your question though. I always thought it was something to do with inner ear fluid.
