Snake in a tree for the last commentor

Postby lkirkwood » Sat Oct 07, 2006 2:17 am

The green snake in the tree is a green viper I would presume and it is venomous which could kill you without antivenom treatment.

I think that a snake named with "king" word like King Brown snake and King Cobra, means that they are cannibal to other snake.....

I would have to say it's the Mamba family that wins this question

But anyway i am doing a research project on Fasciculin 1
Which comes form the venom in Mamba's

Could some one email me and give me some info on this venom and manily what does it do to the human body?
Plus if you happen to know any of the active sites or regions within it or the acetylcholinesterase that is binds too. That would be much help :D

This is a project for Ap Bio in my school where we use rasmol to show the molecular structre then when have to tell a "story" about how this protien does what it does.

Please any help would be help

The two most dangerous snakes in the world are not even on that list - Daboia russelli (Russells viper) and Echis ssp. (Saw-scaled viper)
They can be found close to humans and they have a extremely potent venom
These species kill most people in the world along with Naja naja, indian cobra.

No sense in arguing. Statistics are accurate for all snakes mentioned in this thread, but different characteristics of venom, different tissue damage and in fact the amount of venom released on bite all comes into factor. Taipan is my favorite to read about. It generally releases the most of it's deadly toxin in a single bite. The black mamba doesn't always release high amounts.

Few tiapan facts:

The inland taipan is often considered to be the most venomous land snake. With an LD50 of 0.03 mg/kg, it is about 7 times as venomous as a Mojave rattlesnake and 15 times as venomous as a common cobra. Lethal dose calculations are made on mice, so they have a murine bias. The bias is emphasised in this species of snake, as it is specialised to feed on rodents. Calculated LD50 values might not be applicable to non-mammalian species, and may even be inaccurate for mammals other than mice, or other rodents. The venom from a single bite of the inland taipan might be potent enough to kill about 250,000 mice, or the mouse equivalent of 100 men. This species generally lives in remote and sparsely inhabited areas. Like most snakes, inland taipans are generally shy and will usually not bite unless they feel threatened. No fatalities have been attributed to this species, and all known bites have been to people who keep them in captivity or actively seek them out in the wild.

The common taipan is possibly the third-most venomous snake on Earth and arguably the second-largest venomous snake in Australia (the first arguably being the King Brown, Pseudechis australis). The danger posed by the coastal taipan was brought to Australian public awareness in 1950, when young herpetologist Kevin Budden was fatally bitten in capturing the first specimen available for antivenom research.

I think I have to concede to all of you who said Inland taipan.
I have done a bit of reading and you are right. :)

I voted mamba already, but for most deadly toxin Its Taipan.
particularly, the Austalian Inland Taipan.

BTW this is a good discussion. has any one heard of this guy?
Also there is a movie to watch:

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adven ... m_doc.html

So my changed vote is Land Taipan as most poixonous.

However not the most dangerous.

0.27 what? Grams? Micrograms? Tons? or Chocolate units?

actually it is the most poisonous but there is an anti venum for it however, the king cobra is more dangerous to humans because there is no anti venum for its venum
